Really excited to see simulation being tackled by the Geometry Nodes developers as this will be opening us up to loops and caching in the future!

Tutorial: https://youtu.be/gMOgB7Ds3ZI

In this tutorial I use the 3.5 experimental simulation nodes build from December 10th to create a growing, branching system that responds to other meshes to avoid and grow over the surface. In this case I apply it to a mushroom colony but the same ideas scale to the majority of L-system growth.

Grab a simulation nodes build here: https://builder.blender.org/download/experimental/

(I can't guarantee that the file will work in newer version of simulation nodes but the tutorial thinking should transfer fine!)

Hope you enjoy the tutorial and Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
